Site Map Ninja Training - Learning And Mastering The Elusive Art Form

Image
There are a multitude of weapons used by the ninja, because of their many self protection methods. The throwing star, or shuriken, is one of the many weapons used by the ninjutsu, although other areas of martial arts use them as well. The throwing star you see in Hollywood has nothing whatsoever to do with the throwing star of the ancient ninja warrior; this has not stopped it from becoming illegal in many places around the world.
Ninja stars have become popularized nowadays as a result of magical Ninja legends. These stars also called the shuriken, which basically means "hand hidden blade" and is generally acknowledged in the western world as (ninja stars) which were typically for throwing, and often slashing or stabbing. Contrary to the throwing knife ninja stars can harm an adversary irrespective of the area it comes in direct contact with.
Often times I get asked from my students who live in these areas where the star is illegal, is "How can i train and develop my …

Karate Kata - 5 Tips To Improve Your Stances

Image
Stances are the very foundation of good karate katas. Not only are you training your body as a self defence weapon, you are also training it to be a delivery system and platform from which your weapon is launched. You may have a strong punch or kick as well as the speed to deliver the technique but unless you have a strong platform to support the delivery then things might not go your way when the time comes.

Here are five “tips” to help you improve your stances and strengthen your “battle platform”.
1.  Identify the Importance of Improvement It is not your level that is important. What is important however is the understanding that you can improve your stances today by taking on an attitude of growth. That you can become better than you already are. As with anything you do there is always room for improvement. To think otherwise is limiting your capacity to grow to say the least.

2.  Start Small Good Kata wasn’t built in a day! It takes time to develop good quality. Desire is a posi…

Mixed martial arts workouts are a sure fire way fit. However you must realize that this type of training is way different from your normal aerobic skipping and jump rope techniques. The importance here is that mixed martial arts more importantly - karate, is geared to improving your way of life and not specifically just getting you fit. Hence a combination of both will lead to self improvement on all fronts, mental and physical - and this is what we will examine in this article.

What many people do not realize when they first begin training is that the most significant benefit will ultimately be a total ‘self-improvement’.
I have heard of many people who have said the words “Karate has changed …

Kung Fu Wushu - Does It Make You Tough Enough?

Image
Kung Fu and wushu are two interchangeable terms. Kung Fu is the Chinese term for martial arts while Wushu is the Mandarin term for the same. Both involve a series of fighting styles, kung fu using a lot more animal mimicry and wushu using philosophy, religion and even some ancient legends. However with all the training involved the real benefit of Kung Fu Wushu is to make you mentally and physically tough.
Over the years many people taking Kung Fu lessons act and think they’re tough!  But the toughness that I am talking about is with your number one opponent.. You!  You are the first challenger that you must come to know and understand.  If you can understand this person then you can coach them….. to WIN!  I say ‘this person’ because there are times you like yourself and times you don’t.  This is the challenge of every student of Kung Fu and Wushu. Kung Fu’s philosophy is to develop good values, and then to live by them.  This will only come through personal development and the buildi…

The Essence Of Korean Taekwondo

Image
"Junior" and "senior” or "student" and "instructor’ are usually the two types of ranks in Taekwondo. Usually there are 10 ranks as the Korean word geup (also gup or kup) stated. Color belts of different colors are what classify the different ranks in the junior level. Stripes on the belts often times indicate the Geup rank, rather than just by color. The tenth geup , which is indicated by a white belt, is where students begin, working their way to the first geup, and that belt is red with a black stripe. Nine ranks make up the senior section. These ranks are known as "dan" which refers to a black belt or also known as "degrees’ such as "third degree black belt" and so on.
The senior starts at the first degree, and then advances to the next and so on. Stripes often times will indicate the degree of belt of the person; some may have roman numerals, while black belts can be plain at any rank. A panel of judges oversees promotional t…

Karate For Kids - The Importance Of Practice

Image
A few months ago researchers started conducting a survey to determine how many classes a martial arts student trained in per week. You’ll be surprised to find out that the average worked out to be about 1 (in fact, the actual number came in at 0.9!). That is, on average, the karate student trains 1 time per week! So what does this mean when we talk about Karate for kids?
This came as a surprise to many senior instructors. When they saw this statistic they were quite shocked! Countless number of times that Shotokan students asked ‘how can I improve my karate?’ Some students would confide in in their instructor that they did not feel like they would get any better without more proper and focused training. They believed thatthey’d never improve. ‘You cannot train and not improve’ is Karate and Kung Fu's motto.
Maybe I was wrong. I can’t recall if I asked these students how often they trained per week. Perhaps I could have been a little more helpful if I did ask them, and if their ans…
